yes, the bottom opening is for the underflow...if you're going to seal it up...make sure there are top opening for overflow...if not how it going to work? use canister?

plz correct me if im talking nonsense , the top is for the water to flow , the bottom is to clear the waste , if i seal the bottom how the waste gona get cleared ?

i should be following bro bai's idea when he mention , "Do a small partition like a L or U shape higher then ur soil level at the bottom which ur water will flow in ur IOS put a sponge in it to prevent soil or shrimp to be suck into it. Best is to silicon the partiton to prevent it from moving away when u take out the sponge for washing. " sounds ok hor ?

Do take note that some soil get dissolve easily in water....
