Sadly, nope... the hard plate does not regenerate. You better put in some antibiotics just in case the gills have a infection. Who taught you to cut this way?

Then really... too bad liao...what's done is done. The hard part does not regenerate. The soft membrane shd grow from where u cut from. only then the aro is safe from secondary infection from setting in... you shd get some medicine to prevent infection for the time being.

I was like when i saw the pics...

imagine u left it like that...suddenly other tankmates go and bite the dangling gillplate = (

pls remember to maintain a good water parameter.

if i am not mistaken, the appetite of that aro has been reduced.try to give him his favourite food and make him eat more.

That's a real operation gone wrong there bro. Did you follow the curve of the gills when you cut or did you just cut straight up?

With the operculum cut like that, the gills are exposed & the cut edge looks pretty raw. You should put some antiseptic directly on the cut part or if not possible dose your tank with some antiseptic eg acriflavin for 3-4 days just to prevent infection & allow granulation(healing) to take place.

The hard gill may not grow back after such a traumatic injury. If it heals the soft membrane may regrow & may cover the exposed gills, but the hard portion may not regenerate. What were you thinking? You shouldn't have cut it without first finding out how to do it. Now I'm sure it hurts more than to have the gills cover dangling.

Now for the remedy....you're staying in the north. You need to get some antiseptic for it. I'll pm you details.

thks bro simon...at least u still around!!

i only cut the top part ...where as the straight cut looks as if i cut it but the actual fact is it broke at that point!!....exactly at that line!!....in order not to aggrevate the pain any more...thats y i cut the top...where the 1st scales at the head starts!!.....

That's a pretty bad bite! Then in which case you have done correctly. As mentioned in my pm, don't feed for now, cos you don't want to cause further water deterioration.

Better still if you've got a spare tank, take the fella out. Then it'll be easier to medicate.
