The scrape on the scale is probably due to physical trauma. No medication needed. Aros are amazing fishes, they'll healed well from the most traumatic wounds. Usually with any injury, the wound starts to show signs of healing within 2-3 days, as long as the fish is healthy & water conditions good.

True that melafix does have healing properties, but allowing nature to heal itself is definitely better & cheaper too. It's easy to become anxious when your precious aro injures itself & be tempted to add something to the water.

Aros are living things & just like us humans are not perfect. We never look perfect everyday of our lifes. The occassional rash here & the occassional pimple there. Sometimes we scratch ourselves & get a cut. All these would heal up in time as long as we take care of our general health. Similarly with aros, it's difficult to maintain an aro with perfect scales with no signs of scratches or chips etc. However most of these problems would clear up if you take care of it's environment. So don't worry too much, the aro has been around for much longer than we have & the aro can take care of itself. You just have to take care of the water.

Thank you, Bro Vetduck

I totally agreed with you regarding taking care of the environement and water parameters. As mentioned before, I hesitated to dose in any medication when the scale was found to have problem sometime in June. During that time, I change water about 10 to 20% every three days, add salt and increase temperature to 32 DegC. Water parameters (ammonia and nitrite) were monitor every two days, everything's O.K.
But the scales is still the same, no sign of improvement at all as you can read from my thread. This make me worry as like what you mentioned and I belive as well that "Usually with any injury, the wound starts to show signs of healing within 2-3 days, as long as the fish is healthy & water conditions good"

I did also went to C328 and ask the man regarding my RTG scales problem and he recommended me to use Waterlife - Sterazin. I paid $11.00 for a bottle, but did not use it as I think this would be a much stronger medicine and would probably wash out my filter BB.

Hi, Bros
1st. Last mth my 19" xback dropped 3 scales and tail fin seems abit torn.
I did 20% wc with abt 5 spoon of salt.(tank:4x2x3). During the nite, added 6cups of melafix. 4 cups of pimafix. with full powerhead blasting.
Con't M3cups,P2cups for the next 5 days then w.c.
My aro seem to recover on the 3rd days! now the scales is back.

2nd. Last week some white patches and reddish blisters appear on the face and top of head of my aro. ( thought my gold xback changing to red!)
Did the same as above. Bingo! everything seems ok too.

maybe it just my luck! but somehow the water parameters is of most important.
Me. Wc 5 days washing of filters alternate 4 days.

Tks all bros who had attend to my previous quiries too.

Agree with you!

Any type of medication also dangerous if not used properly!

Btw, how big & old (young) is your Red aro now? Looks very good!

Second day, another 50ml dosage of melafix, only RTG not eating and stay most of the time at the water surface in one corner. But all other fishes are O.K. and eating well.

Today will be the third day, I do not know should I continues to dose the melafix as the instruction indicated (daily for 7 days). I did not change any water after the first dose. The RTG has some improvement on the injury scale.

Any advise ?
Scale drop do not need melafix. As long there is no infection and your water parameters are ok, so be it. Adding 50ml daily? You might want to check with the manufacturer.
