seen quite alot abt this horizon ventures guy/thing, is it a shop or just a home based operation?
yeah ive seen that offer liao, but at $220 for a 3ft quad retrofitting, not inc T5 tubes, its kind of expensive for me..
cos im just a 16yr old student, and my parents never sponsor anything for me in terms of aquatic hobby..
plus my pocket money is peanuts, after gg ard asking my frens how much they get, i realised i get $10-$15 less than the avergae per week..
nvm, i dun tink ill need lights for now rite?
so ill just save up over the next motnh or two then see wad i do later..

You can save up the money first, you don't need the lights now. In fact, you can do without lights until you add in corals.

Of course, without lights the coralline algae on the LR would die over time. Thats the drawback for not having lights after cycling but usually it would take quite awhile before this happens(Think at least 2-3months from my experiences).

hi hi bro...

yup..received your pm. i tink i reply to u here better.

ok..firstly, i have to apologise. i forgot urs is a 3ft tank. my light is 2ft 55W. not enuff also for u.

and also...from the earlier postings, u were saying ur parents are not supporting u in terms of $ for this hobby. this will be very very difficult for u to kickstart. the sand, the rocks, the salt, the lights, the skimmer, pump will already set u back by at least a couple of hundreds(or even more for a 3 ft tank)

unless u wanna save up slowly...look around the buy/sell section at arofanatics or the pasar malam section at SRC...u can find really gd deals there.

lights, like what kalib has mentioned, is not the first few things to buy.for me,the first thing i look for is the skimmer and pump. u can save abit of money if u go for a bare bottom tank.

all in all...hope u consider carefully before starting your marine adventure~

cya around~!

the sand, salt, and pump i hv settled liao..
cos i bought the sand and salt liao, pump i found an old eheim 1260, so can put into my 6ft tank and take out the 2 smaller pumps..
left rocks, skimmer and lights(the exp stuff)
yeah my parents never gimme $ for buying fish one lah..
but i still managed to get a 6ft tank in march, using my birthday and CNY angbao $..
so i tink i can manage this tank lah..
so far got a budget of maybe $150-200+ free, over the next few weeks this shld increase..
been saving quite a lot recently, cos exam period i never go out at all mah..

ive been digging ard all the buy/sell forums, but now ppl dun seem to be selling much of the stuff i need, namely rocks and lights..

btw, do i really need 4 T5 lights?
can manage on 2 or not?
if can i tink my budgeting will be ok, if not i tink i must save some more..

ok...in that case...i suggest maybe u can get the skimmer and rocks first...then after that u look for the light.by then, i tink not much of ur current budget will be left.

for rocks..u can go src pasar malam section.usually once or twice a week will have pple selling theirs. or u can check out the older threads as some might still be available.

gd luck and all the best buddy~
