What color temp T5 tubes u using for yr tanks?
Hi,
started this to see how many are actually using 6500K T5 for their reeftank. I remember seeing a German tank using 8 or 12 tubes of T5 with 65K & Actinic combi for his SPS tank. He is able to achieve abt 5-10mm growth from his SPS which is quite impressive. Anyone planning to add or change to 6500K tubes for their reef? Planning to make 8 tubes of T5 with this combi. 1)20K 2)20K 3)Actinic 4)6.5K 5)6.5K 6)6.5K 7)6.5K 8)Actinic Cheers! Goh_TM |

I think the arrangement might be better, unless your tank is backing the wall.
1)20K 2)Actinic 3)6.5K 4)6.5K 5)6.5K 6)6.5K 7)Actinic 8)20K and use 3 timer. 1) Actinic x 2 2) 20K 3) 6.5K. or get a 4th timer to split out the 6.5K , so no sudden shock to the marine fish.. |

actually I am reserve now on the 6500k after I visit my friend's tank just now.
He just introduce extra 2 x PL (I think 36W right ?) to his tank about 10 days ago and now he have problem with green algea which covering the glass & LR... Didn't test his PO4 & NO3 but nothing change between this 10days so he suspect it is the 6500k which play a part of the green algea .. |

Hi spsman,
I am not sure, but most likely 2.5ft. Cos he used to use 400W & 250W MH for his tank. What species he is keeping? So long liao. Anyway, his tank is featured on a site where I saw it mid last year. I am planning for new tank now. To sustain the colors shouldn't be a problem. 8x54W = 432W. Good spider reflector x 2 = 864W for 4ft more than enough liao. Anyway, I will only go mix reef with lots of fishes also, more challenging. Like what I see in documentary. SOrry, personally I find SPS only tank a bit boring to look at. I like movement. I doubt sps color is solely because of lighting. Researchers & pple aboard had already been discussing on exchange of zooxanthellae by corals esp Sps. They have found out that diff strain of zooxanthellae had diff color pigments that directly affect the color of the coral. That why sometime SPS just lose their color even under very strong lighting like 250 or 400W. In US, theres a guy that propagate corals. He got 3 system of lighting. 150W, 250W & 400W. All have stunning colors. He is also a believer of the above findings. This guy is featured in an aquarium magazine few mths back only. Cheers! Goh Quote:

hi Goh, it would be helpful if u can direct me to the us reefer or reefers u mentioned. thks. is he from reefcentral? cos i have seen some stunning tanks there too. regarding the coloration issue, some say its due to the level of nutrients in the water. then it is highly debatable. for me, i believe in personal experimentaion. so far, some comments can be quite truthful but not all. and it is only the keenest reefer who bother to find out the truth. some also say the geovit system is the ultimate system in marine aquarium. where business interests and mktg campaigns is concerned, the truth can be tainted. truth to be told, it is better to experiment and share findings. thks too in advance. cheerz |
