Default Need Help regarding white film on aro eyes

Hi Bros,

My RTG has been developing this white film which hasn't covered the eyes but is just at the corner for now.

I went through the forum here and tried adding salt, did a water change and and have been adding befuran and melafix....both of these are not really causing an improvement as the film still exists...

At times it seems to decrease then the next day back to original.

The aro's appetite has also been decreasing...he eats only once in a while..

I change water every 2 weeks..close to half a tank ( 5 feet tank ) and the aro has no other tank mates so the water has no reason to foul up so fast.

Any bros have any suggestions or any experienced aro keepers ard yishun care to take a look if you are free ?

It's been a very frustrating week.

Thanks

questions brother.

1. is this the only fish that has cloudy eyes.
2. any possibility that it is caused by abrasion? jumping, fights?
3. examine the eye with a magnifying glass. do you see worm cataract?
4. is it a protusion or caving in?
5. did u test the water for toxins. ie ammonia, nitrite and nitrate.
6. salt level maintain at 0.3%
7. over medications may complicate the problem

if possible post pictures here. there are vets in this forum

first of all, did you cycle your tank? if not, changing water every 2 weeks....is not good for your aro....cuz ammonia or nitrite spikes might occur...w/c is harmful to your aro. Plus of course foul water plays a big part to your RTG's cloudy eye.

Try not to do WC which is 50% of your tank. That will surely stress your aro!!! The max that you should do is around 30%.

in order to get rid of that cloudy eye......try to change water every other day (10-15%). Try to put the temp around 30 degrees celsius (some people do 32). And add salt during WC.
You will see the eyes improving in 2 weeks.

good luck to your aro and to you bro!

Hi bros,

The RTG is the only fish in my five feet tank. He's been there since last year august and I've never had any problems so far except now.

I've been following my water regime all the way and never encountered any probs. ( Touch wood ! )

My guess is that the feeder fish I added in about awhile ago to make him eat have caused this. ( First time I bought at the market as it was the only shop open during CNY )

Anyway heard from another bro that epsom salts help.

I've added blackwater too and will update his condition.

Was a bit slow to realise the white film as I've been busy with my marine tank for the past few weeks...

Thanks to all who chipped in some advice..its well appreciated

Cheers
