Aro developed bent spine (HELP)
HI all,
Noticed that my aro developed bend on its spine (Start point: centre part to the tail), slopping downwards. Do not know what could be the problem. Still eating and no abnormal behaviour. Please advise, much appreciated. |

how long hav u kept ur aro? how big is ur aro & ur tank size now? a curved spine could be due to a small tank size or defect or even shock. do u hav any pic? u may also refer to: http://www.arofanatics.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=131969 Rgds. Last edited by WanWan; 26-04-2005 at 09:34 AM. |

Hi Wan Wan,
The size of the tank is definately not a issue as I am having an approximate 7 inches aro in a 5ft tank. Tahnks for the link, but the problem of the fellow brudder is of a different case as mine. Appreciate advice. No pics but attached a drawing of how it looks. Cheers Quote:

Is your aro active swimming ? Aro normmally won't stop swimming even its asleep. One of this bend could due to stay still for long period on top of water. Can try to increase water acceleration by add few PH (not to extend stressing it), this will force your aro to 'exercise'.

The situation I am facing is the same as those shown in your pic attachment, however the aro only developed it recently.

My aro developed this when it dashed hard against the tank long time ago. The spine appeared bent.
What I did was to lower the water level, till there is only around one inch of water above the aro. The aro was inactive and rested on the bottom of the tank. Within 2 days, my aro recovered. I am not sure if this method will work for you, but just to share some experience |

Thats great, will try your method. Any method is worth trying since I do not know the cause of it.

try those methods...........
Quote:
please try those methods mentioned by fellow bros earlier..... If your Arowana ever jumped out of tank or dashed against top cover or tank sides, it can cause bent spine. If the above did not happen, you may want to shutdown your filter and all pumps. Observe it for severals minutes to see it straigthens even slightly ~ if that's the case, your pump is too strong. Another probable cause is too high a heater temperature setting. If you run a heater around 29~31 degree C, some Arowanas bend ~ lower it to 26 and wait for 24 hours for temperature to stabilise, then observe fish. Another is the diet. If you feed only dried food, please soak with tankwater or press it with fingers before feeding to fish if your Arowana normally eats immediately. Does it have tankmates that are bottom feeders and is your Arowana constantly looking downwards at them ? Also, do you switch on strong lights and is your tank bottom white and shiny ? One other possibility is defect. Take care. |
