What's the cause of my baby red's death?
Aro-Medics;
Please help me shed some light on the sudden death of my small KK Red. I had 4 fish total 3 weeks ago that came in really small at 4-4.5inches. The were feeding on crickets since they were so small. I had sold off a few of them and kept one remaining one. He was the biggest eater and always attacked his food and swallowed it. What puzzeled me what when I moved his remaining 2 tankmates out of the tank and fed him his last meal he started acting wierd. I removed the dividers to give him the whole 4 foot tank for himself. But the days that followed didn't seem like he was acting like himself. He swam fine and everything but he stopped eating. i didn't think much of it and gave him a few days. I thought I might be shipping him soon so I took his remaing food out of the tank. On the third day I moved him into a 18gal tall tank withh 100% of the water he was in. I moved the same heater the same filter and all. The following morning I had noticed something white on the bottom of the tank. I thought it might have been something that fell in the tank, but when I reached in the pick it up, I noticed it was really soft and slippery. I wasn't sure what it was but thought it might have been something he excreted in his waste? After that I observed him and noticed he had lost some of his equilibrium. He was laying on the bottom for a while then start swimming. I went to bed and thought he was just adjusting to his new tank. The next morning after I woke up and talked to a friend about the small fish I went outside to atempt to feed him and noticed this: What Happen to my fish? << What happen to my fish. I sensed it was something wrong with his swim bladder, but what happen? Would there be a chance that his microchip punctured through his abdominal cavity and caused damage to him. He just went down hill from there. I am very concerned about the cause of his death and would like any ideas about this incident! Should I cut the fish open to see what I find? Is this fish too small to bear a microchip? Thanks! Last edited by FishYee; 10-05-2005 at 01:12 PM. |

I did feed frozen crickets.
Actually, i did feed them frozen crickets and shook the bogs so the legs would fall off. I just fed the body to the fish.
