Default Is there a cure for hole in the head?

Is there a cure for hole in the head? One of my fishes just got it, after some water changes and salt.. the condition looks controlled. Is it infectious to the rest of the fishes?

Hole in the head, or HITH, is also known as head and lateral line erosion, or HLLE

Add 1tbs if aquarium salt per 5 gal.
Raise temp to 80-82 DegF
Remove carbon
Treat with Metronidazole
20-30% water change every 3 days

Hope that help....

yup....Agree!

Plus I read somewhere that.....adding liquid multivitamins (especially enriched w/ B complex), minerals, and trace elements will also help out.

good luck w/ your aro!

What I've heard about zeolite is that it facilitates an ion exchange (ammonia in, sodium out) but I've heard nothing about it absorbing any chemicals like activated carbon does

Poor water conditions have been linked to many cases of HITH and can be a major factor in it's onset. As a rule of thumb your ammonia should read 0, nitrites 0, and nitrates should be less then 40 ppm, and less then 10 ppm is ideal. Nitrates have been linked in some studies to the development of HITH where a fish is kept for long periods of time in water with levels exceeding 40 ppm

Diet is the most commonly accepted and supported cause of HITH due to a lack of calcium, phosphorous, and vitamins C & D

The carbon theory is probably one of the most hotly debated concerning the cause of HITH. The idea is that the carbon used to remove harmful toxins from the water actually causes the disease. At first this may seem absurd and contrary to what you have read or been told, however when you take into account the number of cases of HITH directly related to carbon (i.e. HITH appears when carbon is introduced and disappears when carbon is removed) it is hard to argue with it.

I will recommend New Life Spectrum Food Product.

imo, NLS is head & shoulders above anything else that's currently on the market and the vitamin content is again IMO the highest on the market. Most fish foods don't even state on their labels what their vitamin content is .....

NLS contains:

Krill,Herring, Wheat Flour, Amino Acids, Algae Meal, Soybean Meal, Fish Oil, Beta Carotene, Spirulina, Vitamin A Acetate, D-Activated Animal Sterol (D3), Vitamin B-12 Supplement, Riboflavin Supplement, Niacin, Folic Acid, Calcium Pantothenate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Thiamine, Biotin, DL Alpha to (E), L-Ascorbyl-2-Poliphosphate (C), Choline, Chloride Cobalt, Sulfate, Copper Sulfate, Ferrous Sulfate, Manganese Sulfate, Ethylenediamine Dihydroiodide, Ethoxyquin (Ant-Oxidant) Added Mineral no more than 2.5 %

Guaranteed Analysis
Protein: (Minimum) 34 %
Fat: (Maximum) 5 %
Ash: (Maximum) 9 %
Moisture: (Maximum) 10 %
Fiber: (Maximum) 5 %
Vitamin A: (minimum) 8000 IU/KG
Vitamin D: (Minimum) 450 IU/KG
Vitamin E: (Minimum) 200 IU/KG

NLS uses 300 mg/kg amount of vitamin C to allow for shrinkage over time compares to other commercial feed which uses 200 mg/kg
http://forums.spectrumfishfood.com/viewtopic.php?t=9

NLS Thera +A Formula has a min 38% protein, and 7% fat is a none medicated food that contains a mega dose of allicin compound which is found in garlic. It help to get rid of the instinal worms and parasites on the fish. Some claim they got rid of ich by using Thera +A formula. It definitely helps. You can feed your fish with this formula all the time since there is no medication involved. It would also be a good staple for any adult species that are carnivorous. Feed lightly, each pellet packs a lot of nutrition.

here's a reason why no one except NLS uses Krill meal as their main ingredient, just follow the $$$ and you'll figure it out.

Krill meal = very expensive
Herring meal = expensive

white fish meal = much cheaper
shrimp meal = very cheap

As for the Feeding, Fish Nutrition,Fish Food And Disease
you might want to ask Mr Pablo(CEO of NLS) on his New Life Spectrum Q&A forum? I assure you he will give you the best advice more than anyone else.
