Thumbs up Ozone Test Kit

Managed to purchase this test kit over the weekend and like to share my experience regarding how useful is this test kit.

Intro
As we are aware that Ozone is often used as part of a marine filtration system to break down waste products but over ozonization can affect the livestock as well as the composition of sea water.

As a safety precaution, the ozonated water, returning to the main tank should be filtered through activated carbon and as an extra precaution, strongly aerated.

Purpose
The test kit is to detect the presence of excessive ozonization or if the carbon is still active by or not in the absence of carbon test kit so that you know it is time to replace the activated carbon.

Review
The kit cost S$20 and it comes with a sample bottle of Iodine supplement in addition to a color chart, test vial and regent.

Like all test kit, one has to rinse the test vial with the water to be tested and fill it up to the 10mL mark. Thereafter add 5 drops of the "ozone regent" and give it a good shake.

Then holding the test vial about the color chart which you read off the ppm level closest to the the water in the test vial.

That easy ..

Conclusion
This is definitely a MUST buy for reefers who are using ozone as a filtration system as the amount of ozone oxidation products in the water flowing back to the water should be 0ppm.

Any level of 0.05ppm is already harmful.

Recommendations
a) Do yourself a favour by getting this test kit from your favourite LFS if you're using Ozone as part of a filtration system otherwise you wouldn't know how safe are the tank inhabitants.

b) Dose Iodine on a weekly basis as iodine (needed by soft corals, crustaceans and fish) is rapidly depleted rapidly at a faster rate through skimming as well as in the presence of Oxzone.

Have fun.

this test kit is not suitable for those suffering from color blindness ...

Time to replace the carbon as indicated by the test result ... 0.05ppm
