jagged scales: can 15 scales or more be peel off at one time?
hi
me aro has jagged scales and i have search through the forum in here and most says the solution is to peel it off. the thing is how many can be peel of at a time? my aro had like 15 jagged scales and it looks ugly. i when to the local lfs yesterday (irene) and that tauke over there says can peel off but only 3 scales can be taken out at a time. he says aro might not be able to take it or 'tak tahan' with the operation (peeling of scales) and just die if to many is being peel off. is that true? just need confirmation from here. FYI me aro is about 14 inch and water parameter now is good. |

ok just an update on my aro. yesterday did an operation of cutting the gill and peeling of 2 of its scale. now the gill has been opening for quite some time (like 2 years) and only yesterday i did the cutting operation. after transmore it and putting it to half sleep try cutting it with a very sharp scissors. the thing is the gill is VERY hardy and hard to cut. even tho i cut the folded part of the gill, its very hard and i could here the scissors goes 'ktak! ktik!' each time its cut. then the next part is the scale. man i can tell u each time i pull the scale the aro will jump violantly meaning to say it is PAINfull. after peeling of 2 of the most severe jagged scale, i put it back to the aquarium and it jumped, and another 2 scale when off accidently. today my aro is eating back SW normally but not at a huge consumption probably its apetite lost even tho i starve it 4 days for the operation. will see if the scale grows back normally and if it does, perhaps i peel another 2, and so on. will post a pic one of these days.

no need
there isn't a need to pluck out the scales if the chipped is minor.
ensure good water condition (regular water change) and the chipped scaled will grow back....they are like our fingernails.....will grow up. |

Feel the pain on your aro too.. Hope it's doing well now.
I pluck out 1 chipped scale on my xback last time and it jumped when the scale was pulled. Now seroiusly think it's damn painful for them. Think just take out the serious jagged ones will do, the rest just leave it lah. |
