RTG in Danger!
Dear all,
My RTG (11') is suffering from an unknown disease. It looks like a fungi, but seems no medi can help to kill it. This "fungilike" disease is on its anal fins and on its scales (near the tail). Please check out the pics for more detail (sorry for poor pic quality) I have tried following medicaments: - TETRA FUNGI STOP: no improvement - SERA MYCOPUR: slight improvement - SERA BAKTOPUR: no improvement - AQUAFURAN (Active substance: Nifurpirinol): no improvement - Took the RTG out and rubbed the parts with EXTREMLY high dose of salt: big improvement after 4-5 hours, but disease kept coming back after 2 days! I tried those above mention meds several times, added salt, increased the heater to 30°C. No improvement. RTG was great eater, now appetite becoming very poor. Hope any1 can tell me what disease that is cause dont wana lose my only RTG. Any inputs are welcome. I am somehow at the end. I simply dont know what to do anymore. |

Can you let us know your water condition like PH, Ammonia etc.
You could try the combination of Melafix and Pimafix together. |

You could do a salt bath for the aro ever few days.
At the same time maintain 0.3% salinity level in the tank for until the healing is complete and add another week. |

Hi,
maybe u can try: 1) reduce the water in yr tank by 50% - reduce stress. add back bit by bit when condition improves 2) water change 20% every 2 days (age water and with anti-chlorine 7 chromomine - if not using medication. 3) lots of oxygen, maintain PH. 3) the good bacteria may be eliminate after u try so many medication...better monitor the water condition closely on ammonia, nitrite. Get used filter elements from others to start building good bacteria. SERA also have products that can eliminate ammonia and nitrite with good bacteria. 4) also like what some bros suggest, 0.3% salt and raise temperature. 5) if all the above still doesn't work, i suggest u bring in the fish doc asap. Aquatic animal Vet 219 Jalan Kayu, S799442 Tel: 64813700 I suggest if you ve no confidence on positive progress, bring it to the vet before the weekend. |

Usually I just dose "Multicure" from Aquamedi.
Normally solves the problems I encountered with aros. Just go C328 and ask for it from the uncle or lady boss. Change 30% - 50% or your tank water with aged water than dose in the required amount. Hope it helps. |

Dear bros and sis, thank you all for you advices. I do know now what causes this fungi like disease and therefor wana share my knowledge with you all:
This disease is called oodinium pillularis and is a kind of parasite. In the early stage it looks similar like Ichthyophthirius (white dots disease) and people tend to think its Ichthyophthirius. In the later stage oodinium forms bigger looking dots, mostly starting at the fins. Oodinium pillularis CAN NOT be cured with meds vs fungis or bacterial diseases !!! That's why none of my mentioned meds worked. The cure: Increase Temp to 30 °C, add 1-3 g/liter salt into the tank. Adding SERA Oodinopur or similar meds. Partly WC before treatment is recommended, but DO NOT USE water conditioner, because it will neutralise the copper in the med. During the treatment the tank light should be turned off all the time. The aro should then be cured within 5 days. A second treatment after a regeneration time of 3 days is also recommended but not necessary. So far i hope my info helps now bros and sis in future if they encounter the same disease. |
