Help! ARO WITH SWIM BLADDER PROBLEM
Hi bro, really need all your advise fast in what to do now! This morning my Aro which is about 24"++ and about 6 years old started to dash around in its tank which she had stayed for about 4 years. Subsequently, I think she hurt her swim bladder and now she had lost her balance and is floating upside down at water surface. I've tested the water and all parameters are good.
I've heard that females will have this 'Full Eggs' symptom and will perish if not being used for spawning...is it true? Mine is probably a female cos she had a 'parang' like belly. Please kindly advise me what I should do now. Thanks in advance. Last edited by Jackson; 20-05-2008 at 07:57 PM. |

U might want to lower down the water level and increase aeration. Add in blackwater, hopefully will calm her down. If she is calm but still having SBP, get 2 pcs if plastic dividers and hold her upright. You might want to call a vet for a professional advice.

Bro, do you think that salt will help. As i'm using a sump tank, lowering the water level will means that the tank will have no more filtration. Please advise me if I need to add a internal power filter? Currently having a big airstone inside. Thanks.

Not sure what causes it, but aro tend to have crazy moment at time. U probably need to manage the situation at best u could & observe further. I would does what Alvin recommended in such situation. |

How is the situation now? I believe you have limited option. Since the aro is 24", not easy to move to hospital tank. Lowering down the water level hopefully will prevent the aro from hurting herself when she trying to regain balance. I do not recommend adding chemical to prevent adding additional stress to the aro as it will change the water parameters unless they are recommended by vet. Salt should be fine. Put an airstone in the sump to keep the BB alive, lower down the water level in the main tank, put in an OHF or canister or internal filter with media from sump, but ensure the flowrate from the outlet do not further stress the aro. Hope for the best.
