Default Cardinals wiped out

Sigh, entire tank of cardinals wiped out overnight Suspected to be either mycobaterium (fish body pale, swimming listlessly, one with white growth over left eye) or due to water conditions.

Happened after I added some new plants and a batch of new cardinals into tank a week ago, to join existing cardinals & plants..

Just finished dis-infecting the tank with soap & mild bleach. Any easy-to-maintain fishes to recommend going forward? What could I have done differently? Open to constructive thoughts.

Rgds.

Soap and bleach?

I'll advice you to soak the entire tank with 4 x the water conditional like Seacheam Prime to remove any toxic with water change before using the tank again...

Just curious why you did not suspect water parameters gone wrong? Ammonia/nitrite spike? What kind of filtration in your tank?

I checked the water parameters, and the only change was the PH which was closer to 6.4 than the usual 7.0. The fishes also had some discoloration, became pale, and weren't swimming well. It seemed like mycobaterium to me, but let me know why you'd think otherwise.

Unfortunately, I don't have a quarantine tank presently... am looking into that.

That's the Pleistophora parasite? I did think it was that possibly, but there were no cysts.
