Default Help my discus !!

I bought 8 red melon a few days ago.. On the first day they were fine.. but after i did a water change, my discus produce lots of mucus and swimming near the water surface with clamped fins.. They were rubbing their bodies against hard objects. May i know what is the disease for this and what is the best solution..
Btw, i did a water change and clean my canister filter. i don have any test kit to check my water parameters..

Just wait and observe. Usually this will last about 1-2 weeks and the fishes will start to recover on the 2nd week. Just remember when you get new fishes. Feed lesser and do lesser water change during the first 2 weeks. Once the fish get accustomed to you handling and water params then you can start heavy feeding and more water change.

Usually for new fishes i will feed only 1 time per day and water change is gradually increased from 20% to 50% during the first 2 weeks.

Just try to look for any med that is anti-bacterial. If you want can buy multi-cure from aquamedi .... i used it on my aros, discus and altums and it works fine.

All the best bro.

Slime disease. Many reasons why they got it. Did you quarantine your fish? Since you mentioned it happened after you did a water change. It is reasonable to assume the new water is the cause. In that case, there can be many reasons for the cause like attack by chlorine, chloramine, drastic PH level or some other things.

First thing first is to strip that coat of mucus off them. You can use various medication from LFS such as yellow powder, pp or even just salt can do. But their recovery depends largely not only on the medication but on very clean water for them to build their immunity towards any bacteria/virus which they are obviously very prone to now, being weak.

So first step, strip them off that coat of mucus. Second step, ensure they get clean water as far as possible. It is recommended that one don't treat slime disease with heater but I have tried to put one in and it didn't harm my fish any futher.

All the best and good luck.

Also it is good to remove the filter during treatment, whether cannister or sponge. Just give them clean water, slowly their immunity system will increase.

They need clean water to recover. But before you do that, you need to remove that coat of slim on their body. I don't know about that medicine you bought. But a very effective one is Potassium Permanganate, which you can get from pharmacy. Mix a bit of it into a solution and drop a few drops into your tank. IT will turn your tank water into a little brown or purple color. Potassium Permanganate will oxidise substances so it will oxidise the mucus and all bacteria in the tank. When you see a lot of dirt floating around your tank, then it has worked. Potassium Permanganate will work for around 4-6 hours in your tank. After that, change the water to give them clean water. After that, if you see mucus again, give it another dose. Do not dose more than 3 times at one go because Potassium Permanganate can hurt your fish. So max dose 2 times and let them rest. But most important is clean water. If you give them enough clean water, without medication, they will even recover by themselves in 1-2 weeks.

so far, this is a very effective treatment. remember to increase yr air aeration during PP bath. need to close monitor during the bath.
to add on, add a little little little bit of PP crystal into distill water or normal water.
