Default Crab Tank Maintenance

Hey guys

Was thinking of starting a Crab Tank, and I've heard many wonderful ideas of keeping them like sloping the gravel to make a small beach so your crabs can climb out. It all sounds really cool.

But how do you clean the gravel that's not in the water? I mean other than taking the gravel out and washing off all the waste products?

Pls help! don't wanna delve into this thing without the proper knowledge

Best is to have a proper filtration in place for the water portion..

Crabs need clean water too, similar to fishes.

Make the environment like a 'beach' slope into water. Quite cool and interesting.
Oh ya! one mroe thing, they might need some hiding place

Maybe if your beach area is submerged but not to the extent that it fully submerges your crabs you could try using undergravel filther. Not sure if it will work but at least than u could clean both land and water portions at one time. Just an idea .

you can grow a lot of plants on the land area, they will take up the excess nitrates which results from the crab waste. Natural filatration.

What sort of plants can be grown? I admit I simply pour some bottled bb and hope for the best. My water has a filter and moss.

currently i have 2 spider crabs in a small tank and recently the stagnant water in the tank breeds mosquitos if left unchanged....so ALL crab lovers beware

you can grow emmersed plants, many choices available, such as crypts, glosso (can form a nice carpet) and pandan.

For low light plants, i think crypts and pandan will be ok.
