Advise Needed - Tigrinus Catfish
My 18" M. Tigrinus has had a Fluke attack (Symptoms: Lost of appetite, panting hard, rubbing of gills area on tank's base resulting in scratches and some bleeding observed as a result) a month ago and has since recovered after administrating Praziquentel. 5 days after it's recovery, I've added Melafix for its wounds inflicted on it's body as a result of all those scratching and banging.
After the treatment cycle, I've did some 30% wc on alternate days plus added in AC to remove the med residue. The Tig's appetite came back and seems back to normal. It was a great sign of relieves for me till one week's back, its appetite drops again. It's still swimming around and eating but not as eager as before. Recent days, I've noticed that it tends to swim up in a fast manner (vertically) and exposed it's head out of the water surface (Banging around). After which it'll swim down to the tank bottom. Breathing looks moderate (hard but not to the extend of panting). No sign of itch is observed too. Did my routine water checks today and here are the readings: Ammonia: 0 ppm Nitrite: 0 ppm Nitrate: 50 mg/l (Have added Special Blend last night after wc, hopefully it's as good as it claimed ) pH: 7.0 Hope to hear your opinions and advises, please. Thank You. |

Hi bro. If you added melafix you might wanna keep the water well aerated than usual as melafix can cause oxygen depletion.

Yes, Bro... I've 5 air stones powered by an AC/DC pump and a Hiblow 20 in there. Aeration is not an issue. Thanks for your reminder though.

Ok, that good sign. What tankmate you have inside, like aro or other aggressive tankmate that always try to attack the tig?
If yes, that may be due to the tig is been attack and cause stress to it. Last time my tig got attack by my aro on/off and it got stress out and die. |

All other tankmates are not showing signs of aggression to my Tig. Furthermore, they have been comm for long time without any problem. So I'd phase out the possibility of aggression from it's other tankmates.
I'm more concern of my Nitrate issue as my aro and ITs are also showing signs of losing appetite. Not sure is it because of the recent cold whether resulting in some side effects? Really no clues and mind running a bit wild now. |

I've administered another dosage of Praziquentel this afternoon. No more said symptom and just now it gobbled down a mp but I think I should go slow on feeding as of now. May need to repeat dose for a couple of weeks more just to be sure. Last edited by aro-spino; 22-01-2011 at 10:35 PM. |
