Default GE: Punggol East SMC sees 3-way fight

http://news.insing.com/news/ge-pungg...ht/id-1a8f3500
SINGAPORE: Punggol East will be the only constituency that will see a three-cornered fight come polling day, with the Workers' Party (WP) and the Singapore Democratic Alliance (SDA) challenging the People's Action Party (PAP) incumbent Michael Palmer.

And both challengers are readying for a tough fight.

Said the WP's candidate, 32-year-old insurance company trainer Lee Li Lian: "I wouldn't speculate on my chances but all three parties have an equal share of the votes so I will just focus on my campaign and do what I need to do and hopefully the voters can give us a chance to serve them."

She said she will focus on local issues such as the cleanliness of the estate, and how to bring more shops to the neighbourhood so as to bring prices down for residents. National issues that she will look at include more help for single parents and the elderly.

The SDA's candidate, secretary-general Desmond Lim, said he is not concerned about the impact a three-cornered fight will have on his campaign.

He said: "I think it's good for the residents because at least they will have another choice, and to hear from the respective candidates what they can do for them.

"At the end of the day, we are from different entities and have different ideologies so it's about our programmes. Whoever can come up with a better programme and residents agree with and buy their idea will receive the mandate."

PAP's Mr Palmer, noting that the constituency had accomplished much over the last five years, told his supporters: "I will fight hard to win this election so that together, we can do even more for Punggol East." He also addressed his supporters in Mandarin.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

PAP's Michael Palmer already went home visit this morning and gartner support for Votes.... alas... where are the opposition parties?

SDA ... WP ..... where are you ....

rivervale resident.
it's a tough choice man, need to choose between one which I think would have more votes. How ?

last GE, SDA was the opposition here, now WP stepped a leg in. But it seemed WP's rally has more supporters. Only flies at MIW rally.

And why they named it punggol east when the whole area is SK and not across the TPE ?
