How big is your aro? Even if the KBL is too big to fit into the ray mouth, the ray can still chew and suffocate the KBL till it is dead. It is safer to get a tank mate that is at least about 3/4 to the same length as the ray. Anything less than half its size is usually deem as food.

Bro, I had rays that wrapped themselves around the head of big koi and chewed out the eyes!
Better to separate

Wow!

I haven't been keeping rays for long, do they do this to their own?

Imagine BDs or P14s chewing each other eyes out...that will be horrifying.

probably the ray is checking out the KPL, shd be alright after a while. you nv experience when you introduced a smaller fish into a tank and those big tigers looking at the fish. stressed.

Once I brought a very nice 3in high fin FF, I put into my tank, big mistake. there are 3 17in ST inside, they were looking at the FF, next morning the FF disappeared

Same, put four 3-4inch ERHs with my 16 inch rays, thought since can't fit in mouth won't kena eaten, but next morning only left 1 out of the four :O actually rays can "tear" their food, if you see them eat before you will know, so don't risk it
