Goldfish with tank landscaping
anyone of u out there have elaborated tank landscaping like those in the <fish tank & landscaping> thread and rearing gold fish like ranchu , redhat , lionhead . got picture to show?
1. is it advisable to put goldfish instead of tetra in beautifully done tank? 2. if possible, how to manage the frequent poo from goldfish and the fertilisers and carbon requirement at the same time. 3 would like some advice on maintenance and upkeeping of the tank with the fish and landscaping. |

Re: Goldfish with tank landscaping
1. Generally speaking the answer is no. GF loves to eat vegetation and digs around the gravel bed too. Basically they'll just mess everything up.
2. Probably close to impossible unless you have a lot of time to scoop up the poos. 3. The main problem with landscaped tank housing beautiful GF is the gravel. Plants are OK (to a certain extend) to GF. Smooth surface onaments are also fine too. It's really the gravel that makes keeping healthy GF an impossible task. Our bro Laserguy loves GF and planted tank. If you check out his gallery , you'll see that he doesn't mix GF and planted tanks even though he have both. |

remember to watch the pH level of your tank closely as the kayu will release tanic acid.

by the way, i also read the thread on Good Buy for Ranchu. a. other than Japan Breed, it seem the popular breed are those coming from China & Thailand. other than the scale size difference, can i say that China breeds are generally cheaper than thai breed? b. i also read in other thread that there also places (ah pek stall at Jalan Kayu) that sell thai ranchu with price range close to that of China one (eg Qian Hu). are there real quality difference ? c. i just bought a few $2 baby ranchu at 63 pasir ris farmway to try and they look really cute compared to luohan. and i like to rear them from 2cm to watch their growth to adult hood. but don mind buying bigger ones to complement. but would like to start right with the breed i intend to go for, any place i can make a good comparison of thai and china breed? |

Re: Re: Re: Goldfish with tank landscaping
Sorry bro, I can's answer any of your question with a straight face. The problem is I can't tell the difference between a thai and a chinese ranchu. Actually I once asked bros here where I can find thai ranchu and no one seems to really know for sure. Was told Straits Aquarium has them but when I was there they claims those are from Japan! &^%$#@
Anyhow, could those $2 fish you mentioned be Lionhead instead of Ranchu? Seems too cheap to be ranchu of any decent quality, ya know? Quote:
