small disc shape... in dirty green colour... semi translucent... visible eyes(two dots).

it sticks on the fish body sucking away nutrients... fish darting and flashing as it tries to get rid of the lice.

the adult lice is easily identified(either on fish body or swimming around looking for hosting). the eggs of the lice takes about 7-10 days to hatch under local temperature... and then it will swim freely in the tank looking for a host(the fish).

so it is always a very good practice to place newly purchase fish in a quarentine tank for observation... just in case.

if the tank is infected with lice... new fish or old fish isn't any issue.

from my experience, newly bought fish(if infected) shows no sign of any external parasite till 7-10 days later.

though i did not look up on any literature on fish lice eggs... i suspect they can be glued onto fish bodies or in the intestine of the fish and release together with the poo.
