hi,
possible that the scrapping of the slime coat causes 2nd infection..... if the scale is somehow detacted from the body biologically (although still physically on the fish), the dead scale will be white... my assumptions only... |

is dropsy associated with scales darkening in color??
i cant really conclude what is happening but it seems like my aro jumped and lost a few scales on both sides of its body 2-3 days ago... the area looks a bit bruised and there are some patches of black... furthermore the scales looks a bit protruded near the injured area... the aro is still feeding ok. swimming wise looks a bit tedious. Another aro seems to have slight protruding scales near at mid region and top part of its body, it have scraped its top 1-2 days ago and now its turning slightly dark on at area. its also eating and swimming well. pls advice on the medical attention |

Hi Vil,
The darkening of the impacted area is usually beneath the scales - caused by knocks usually. You can see red streaks of pink/red underneath the scales sometimes and this turns black after a while. I am pressuming that this is like "blue-black" we have when we knock into something - thus a minor clot of blood in that area. You'll most likely notice some form of swelling in that area when viewing the fish from an angle. This is purely based on observation and deductions. Regards, Alvin. |

Quite a common sight too, especially when many aros r put inside the same tank when i visit some lfs.
Some fighting n jumping around may cause such injury. |
